Alnwick Town 5-3 Pickering Town

F.A Carlsberg Vase 2nd Qualifying Round

Adam Shanks struck 4 times to help Alnwick on their way to a cup upset in the F.A Vase against Pickering Town.

The visitors, from the equivalent league above in the pyramid system, were given a tough time from the home side, and probably didn't expect to come up against 2 of the most in form strikers in the Northern League.

Shanks hit twice in the 1st half, and got his hat-trick soon after the break.

Pickering pulled a goal back, only for McClelland to restore Alnwick's 3 goal lead.

2 late goals from the away side ensured a nervy finish, but Shanks sealed the victory on the counter attack, sending the home side into the 1st Round proper of the F.A Vase.

The draw for the 1st Round was completed on Monday lunchtime, and Alnwick Town have been given yet another BYE, sending us through to the 2nd Round for the 1st time since the 1975/76 season.
