Friday Night Woes

Friday Night Woes

On a night dedicated to club legend Clive Burn, Alnwick's usually reliable home form deserted them as Chester-le-Street travelled home with the 3 points.

An impecably observed minute silence was held before the game in front of Clive's family. On a night where the pitch looked fantastic in the evening sunlight, Clive would have been proud.

After a couple of early chances for the home side, it was Chester that went in front in the 20th minute. A freekick was lofted in by Craig Marron, and Alnwick keeper Straker lost the flight of the ball, and saw it crawl into the net through his fingertips.

Alnwick never really got going in a game with little outcome on league placings come the approaching finish of the season.

Few chances followed, and it took until the 80th minute for Chester to all but seal the game. A strike from the edge of the box was parried by Straker into the path of Stephenson to make it 2-0.

The game was finished in injury time when Egen brought down a forward in the box. Hepplewhite converted, and secured the 3 points for Chester-le-Street.

A poor game overall, especially given the cirumstances leading up to the game. Our biggest home crowd of the season saw arguably our poorest performance at home.

One game remains to reach 50 points. Following results elsewhere this weekend, Alnwick Town will finish the season in 16th position.
