Manager Jon Egen's View on Ashington
New manager Jon Egen has given the club website his views following last night's 4-4 draw with Northern League 1st Division side Ashington.
"We came to the ground tonight and saw that it was in glorious condition due to our groundsman Ian Hogg's hardwork."
"We had the chance to take our training programme and put it up against real opposition in the form of 1st Division Ashington."
"We changed our way of kicking off and went uphill first against possibly the best team we will play against this season."
"With 4 new faces in the starting 11 we played some nice pieces of football, especially through midfield with Josh Willis and Tony Brown linking up well."
"Davey Stewart in goal on 3 occasions came and caught corners and set up a counter attack which only good saves from Connor Grant denied our lead."
"The 2nd half saw more debutants, and Jamie Dixon set-up Brad McClelland for his first of 3, which along with a great left footed curling strike from Tony Brown saw us score 4 2nd half goals."
"However, Ashington sent on their bug guns and scored 4 to leave it finishing 4-4."
"We took a lot of pride from knowing that what the lads are working hard on in training is going to prove fruitful on the pitch, especially with the attitude they showed."
"Young Callum Brooks did well in goal in the 2nd half showing great hands and qucik feet, and Brad's hat-trick is just the start of a hat-full this term."
"We look forward to getting back to training on Saturday to work on progressing even more."
