Alnwick Town 0 - 2 Chester-le-Street Town

August 15, 2015

Alnwick fell to their first home defeat of the season in a disappointing encounter against Chester-le-Street.

In a game that was delayed by 30 minutes due to traffic problems on the A1, it took only 30 seconds for the visitors to take the lead. Goalkeeper Callum Brooks was caught out by the Chester striker to give the away side an early lead.

Alnwick failed to create any clear chances in the first half, and had only a Brad McClelland header brilliantly saved to show in the 2nd half.

The home side's task was made more difficult following the sending off of Tom Macpherson, making his 150th start for the club, for two bookable offences.

Shortly after, Alnwick were caught on the ball, and Chester doubled their lead with a header into the top corner.

Manager Jon Egen said afterwards "We made a mistake in the first minute and never recovered against a workmanlike Chester side. Their goalkeeper made a worldie save from Brad, but we are more concerned about the injury to Tony Brown after a late tackle. We will bounce back on Tuesday though as there's great quality within the squad."
