Alnwick Town 4 - 1 Esh Winning
Alnwick secured their first 3 points of the season, and manager Jon Egen's first league win with a 4-1 victory over Esh Winning on Tuesday night.
It was a game where the home side created plenty of chances, but it took the final 10 minutes to decide the course of the game.
Alnwick took the lead through Brad McClelland in the 15th minute, who finished well shooting across the goal and going in off the post for his 1st goal of the season.
Chances came and went for the home side, the closest being a Ross Straughan header from a corner kick that went just the wrong side of the post.
Esh Winning felt hard done to with a goal disallowed before half time due to a foul in the build-up.
The 2nd half was much of the same with Alnwick having the better of the chances, but they were made to pay when a well taken goal by Daniel Hill brough the away side level.
With the game seemingly slipping away, it was Brad McClelland again who converted from a tight angle at the back post to give Alnwick the lead again to make it 2-1 in the 80th minute.
The game was all but secured 2 minutes later, when substitute Kieran Hogg got on the end of a ball across the box, sliding in to lift the ball back across the goal into the top corner to give Alnwick their 3rd of the night.
In stoppage time, the hat-trick was complete for McClelland, after the referee waved play on after a number of attempts to bring players down, and head rounded the keeper to make it 4-1 and secure the 3 points.
Manager Jon Egen gave his views after the game:
"It's always nice to get the first win under our belts, but moreso was the manner of the performance and the self belief shown by the players to keep going and score the winning goals. Adam Laidlaw (1st team coach) has worked hard with the players on their passing and it's showing. It's also great to see over 100 fans turn out for us tonight."
