Darlington RA 2 - 0 Alnwick Town

August 8, 2015

On another day Alnwick would have driven back up the A1 with 3 points, but missed chances proved costly as Darlington RA got their season underway with maximum points.

One goal in each half proved enough for the home side. Capitalising on a defensive and goalkeeping mix-up in the first half, and then a speculative long range effort in the 2nd were pretty much the only chances the home side created. But they took those chances.

Alnwick created plenty, hitting the woodwork twice, goal-line clearances and goalmouth scrambles, but the ball just wouldn't go in. It looked like being one of those days when the Darlington keeper lost his footing diving for a Tony Brown effort, saving the ball with his face.

The woodwork was hit by a Tony Brown quick freekick in the first half, and a Ross Straughan header in the 2nd.
