Thornaby 1 - 0 Alnwick Town
Alnwick Town fell to a narrow defeat away to Thornaby on Tuesday night in the Northern League.
The game was played in the pouring rain, with Alnwic missing both Tony Brown and Brad McClelland through injuries, it was another night of missed opportunities which proved to be the away side's downfall.
Thornaby scored the only goal of the game on the half hour mark with a header from a corner, but either side of that there was only one team in it.
Alnwick played their best football of the season so far, causing problems for Thornaby's defence, with Danny Lowes regularly getting in behind their defence. Only poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept Alnwick at bay.
In the 2nd half, Ross Gair forced a great save from the goalkeeper. Despite continuous pressure late on, an equaliser just wasn't to be found.
After the game manager Jon Egen said "I can't ask anything more of the lads. The tempo we played at combined with the quality of our passing and movements is as good as most 1st division sides however we just need a little more luck in front of goal at the moment but that'll come. I thought Ross Straughan had his best game for us tonight and Chris Glass making his full debut showed promise."
