St. James’ Plays host to Synthonia on Saturday
Billingham Synthonia are the guests to Alnwick on Saturday as we return home after two games away writes Media Officer Mark Craggs.
And two promising away games they were, with this being the first home game since the hard fought 2-1 win at Crook a week and a half ago. Last week saw Alnwick slip to an unlucky 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tow Law, with the better team losing after hitting the woodwork several times and forcing some good saves from the keeper.
However, back to Saturday and Billingham Synthonia. The Synners are flying high in the league this term, sitting in third and hunting down Ryhope Colliery Welfare. The club's current six game unbeaten run includes a 1-0 victory at home to South Shields and they come into the game on Saturday off the back of a 2-1 away victory against Easington Colliery, the team that last featured at St. James’ Park. Saturday’s opposition also ran out 2-0 winnings in the reverse of this fixture as well as 2-1 at St. James’ in the FA Vase 1st Round replay (with the original tie finishing 2-2).
The player to watch for The Synners will be Sonny Andrews, the club's top scorer this season who has netted 9 goals in 11 games in all competitions (7 in 8 in the league).
Thomas Butler will be back in the squad this week after missing last week's game at Tow Law. The likes of Jamie Dixon, Jonathyn Quinn and Kieran Hogg will also be back after missing last week among others. Andrew Inness will be in line to make his home debut if not his full debut after making a substitute appearance last week.
Kick-off is 3pm at St. James’ Park, get along and support the lads in their first game back at home since the first win of Laidlaw’s reign.
