Richie's Blog - Issue 1

Well it’s almost 3 month since I was given the role of Alnwick Town manager and I have to say what a fantastic place it is to work, the club is very well looked after by all the excellent volunteers and I have been very impressed with the wider club and particular the way the junior section is growing, hopefully a few players for me to pick over the next few seasons!

I welcomed a new Assistant Manager to the club in December, Stu Purvis who is an excellent coach joined myself and the excellent Brian Brooks to give us real strength as a management team. I have been very grateful for their support and hope to work with them at Alnwick for many seasons to come.

As a team I think the first thing I noticed was the amount of goals we had been conceding and that was my main focus early on, hard work on the training pitch has helped us reduce the amount of goals we were conceding from an average of 3.5 goals a game down to 1.3 game which just shows the hard work the players have been putting in right across the pitch.

Scoring goals has been much harder losing the league’s top scorer 6 days after my arrival hasn’t helped however recent signings in Logan Powell and Ian Lee will hopefully help support the magnificent work rate Josh Hay has been putting in up front in last 10 games.

In midfield we have been strengthened with the signings of local lads Joe Henderson and Jonny Wilson who give us great options and in defence the club welcomed back goalkeeper Luc Glasper who will provide us with some good Northern League experience.

This week we have lost Tom MacPherson to a heel operation and everyone at club wish him a speedy recovery, added to that Matty Graham has left the club and again I would like to wish him well for the future.

What I can promise over the final 10 or so games of the season is myself, the coaches and the players won’t be just going through the motions. I expect us to finish strong and I expect players to be fighting to be at the club next season.

Ambitions next season have to be high, I want to see us finish in the top 8, qualify for the FA cup and a promotion campaign has to be everyone’s aim associated with Alnwick Town.

Can we develop and get into Division 1????  I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think we could.

Thanks for all your ongoing support.
